| Music Here are some of my favorite artists. Check them out.
No Compromise, more commonly known as NoCo, is an alternative rock trio from Silver Spring, Maryland. The band's sound often draws comparisons to Third Eye Blind, Foo Fighters, and Green Day, as well as edgier grunge acts. NoCo fuses driving rhythms and distinctive guitar lines with pop-oriented vocals to set their sound apart from other alternative rock imitators. The band displays a diverse sonic palate with songs catchy enough to appeal to fans of lighter genres, yet other tracks that reveal the group's metal and hardcore influences.
The trio initially formed at the University of Maryland in 2002 with guitarist Jack Kwait-Blank and bassist Justin Fry. William Bowen joined the lineup in 2006 on drums, bringing heavier influences to the existing pop-punk sound.
In early 2007 NoCo released a five song EP, "Pull the Plug," representing the first collaboration between the current members of the lineup. The album instantly drew praise from fans and critics alike for its tight sound and universal appeal.
Remember when Rock and Roll was about good times and even better music? Well, Just Like Always is one pop-rock band on a mission to remind the world one song at a time. Based out of the Washington, D.C. area, Just Like Always has started carving their own niche in the local music scene through the release of two EPs, constant gigging, radio airplay, and its uncompromising belief that rock can still be fun.
Often described as "everything that is right with rock and roll," Just Like Always' music is marked by its catchy hooks, clever lyrics, and relentless passion. Fusing today's pop-punk sound with yesterday's relaxed attitude, JLA has developed a style all of their own. Drawing from such influences that range from Green Day to Jimmy Eat World to Ben Folds to Fall Out Boy, the boys have created a sound that is fresh, but still familiar enough to make you feel like JLA has been your favorite band for years. And if the records don't convince you of this, catching a live show certainly will. With an energy level that is near impossible to match and a knack for getting the crowd involved, this is one band that will remind you that when it comes to music, the fan is just as important as the band playing it.
Everybody has a dark cloud in their life....fears, doubts, loneliness, anger, regrets. That's where Fight the Lion's music originates, transforming that dark cloud into empowerment. Fight the Lion does not dwell on the negativity, they confront it, they conquer it. When you're overwhelmed by those dark clouds, surrounded by enemies, and find yourself in the fight of your life, Fight the Lion is the sound of victory.
All the members of Fight the Lion bring strength to the sound of Fight the Lion. From Jake's soaring vocals in "Don't Runaway," to Ron's guitar wizardry in "Burn Out", from Shawn's arresting rhythms in "Let This Die", to Jason's guard-dog-on-a-chain ferocity in "Longshot", these guys are on a mission of rock and roll vengeance. They bring that mission to the stage with a frenetic energy. And when it seems that they've lost control, that you're about to witness unhinged chaos, they execute perfect musical transitions that punctuate the thunder with silence and empty space.
On their debut full length album, "When the Mighty Fall," Fight the Lion adeptly transitions from the title track's epic ballad to the full-throttle rock of "Fire it Up". With songs like "Let This Die" and "A New Hope", they paint an intricate musical scene with complex harmonies and rhythms. If that's a little too heavy, "Don't Runaway" and "The Drive" score big with an Americana-rock sound and irresistible vocals. And if it's not heavy enough, "Longshot" hits like a savage punch to the gut. Fight the Lion crosses multiple genres, but always delivers killer melodies, masterful guitar work, and flawless rhythms.
Fight the Lion's diverse sound has been compared to Coheed & Cambria, Muse, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, and Soundgarden. They are touring in support of "When the Mighty Fall" this summer.
The Somerset Project is a high energy rock band with dark under currents that could only come from real life expierences. The band is accessible to a variety of music lovers with there strong melodies, deep lyrics and hard rhythms. The Somerset Project has been featured on Philly's Rock station 94.1 WYSP and has played many venues in Philadelphia including The Trocadero, The Khyber, The Northstar Bar, etc. They have also Played many clubs in New Jersey and Delaware. Members include singer/guitar/songwriter Sean Dziegelewski aka Shizzle. Sean's vocals are heart felt, aggressive and dynamic. On stage Sean's performances are extremely energetic with lots of movement and natural ability to move the crowd. Sean sings and plays the guitar but gives a 110 percent to each instrument. Anyone in the audience at a Somerset Project show can't help to be amazed at how easy he makes it look. Sean has played in bands such as Slouch, Space Junk Planet and The Suicide Pact. Mike Fisher aka Fisher singer/bass/songwriter. Fisher's bass playing is solid, tight and sometimes experimental. Fisher is also a sick guitar player which helps the songwriting process. Fisher's vocals compliment Sean's vocals. The addition of his individual sound brings a larger and fuller feel to the 3 piece band . Fisher also carries a large stage presence with lots of energy and enthusiasm. Fisher has played in bands such as (Upon Creation, Nailed Right In, Sub Hoodz, Underwater Ally, Inka Rot, Skyscraper). Michael Dunbar on Drums. Michael's hard hitting but fluid drumming is the backbone of The Somerset Project's powerful sound. Michael's dark tribal rhythms and explosive fills are on point giving the music a more dynamic feel. Onstage he's simply BAD ASS!!!! Michael has played in bands such as (Engine and Ignotia). The Somerset Project has a 7 song Ep called The home of the sick and suffering.
NUMA delivers blazing hard rock with a groove that’s been absent from the genre for decades. Formed in late 2005, this explosive quartet has quickly solidified their reputation as one of the premiere live acts in the Mid-Atlantic region. Fusing together honest and memorable songwriting with a brazen intensity, this dynamic band has managed to create an original sound that is truly arena ready. Chad Burrows’ intense wail draws comparisons to both Geddy Lee and Brandon Boyd, and compliments the melodic heaviness of Nick Samuels’ guitar playing. Earth shattering riffs return to the spotlight in the bands’ sound, which is rounded out by the tightest of rhythm sections. The notoriously heavy-hitting Matt Wiles paired with the unique punk/funk of Bryan Lindamood join together to form an untouchable pocket.
This hardworking band has ignited many notable stages along the East Coast including RFK Stadium, The 9:30 Club, Rams Head Live, and most recently The House of Blues Myrtle gaining quite a following in the process. NUMA’s current single "Like a Bruise" is currently in FM and College rotation at radio stations across the Mid-Atlantic region and as far west as Las Vegas garnering rave reviews and an army of new fans that are drawn to the band's fearless sound. That notoriety has recently landed them a sponsorship with Ringleader Clothing and caught the ears of some celebrated forces within the music industry. Easily finding their way into the hearts of true music fans across the country, NUMA's popularity is a testament to the fact the good American rock 'n roll is far from dead. 86 the Effort
86 the Effort is best decribed as a reggae rock band. Ryan, Roman and Bryan play the party music that makes you want to go to the beach. These guys play some funky rock grooves with a carefree attitude. Take a vacation from the hassles of daily life, and go see these guys rock your hips and your mind.
Funk rock's finest band Ballyhoo plays the beats that make you want to rock girl all night. The beats are mellow and the mood flows like water. Howi, Big D, Mista J and Blaze on the turntables will rock the groove into the night. Niki Barr Band
Some days are good, some days are bad, but every day of my life is spent with music in some way. Since the age of 13, I've known exactly what I wanted out of life - abnormality! Which is how I became a musician. Music was my crutch in my small hometown of Denton, MD. I started playing at venues all over MD when I was a teenager with just an acoustic guitar, then on to an electric and started a groovy little high school band. I met my manager, Mike Marucci, through some of those shows and he eventually introduced me to producer, Jim Ebert (Butch Walker, Marvelous 3, Meredith Brooks). Jim and I have worked together on a few records: 'The Other Side of Me' (EP), 'Lush', and 'Go' (EP). 'Lush' was my first full-length record, which included some co-written songs with Butch Walker, The Matrix, Wizardz of Oz, Mathew Gerrard, and Stephen Lironi. The single 'Wasted Time' became the #1 single on Sky Radio in the UK for over 6 weeks. Soon after, we released 'Go' from an EP and it managed to sit atop Sky Radio for over 8 weeks in the UK. My solo act morphed its way into a 'band' within the past few years and together, we wrote, recorded, and produced our latest EP 'Bloom' as the Niki Barr Band. In support of the records, we've been fortunate to share the stage with Joan Jett, Paramore, The Offspring, The Cult, Papa Roach, Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd, Third Eye Blind, and Red Jumpsuit Aparatus. We've also toured internationally with the Armed Forces Entertainment, performing for the US Troops in the Middle East, Japan, UK, and many other countries throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. The tours brought us support from Billboard, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, and NPR Radio's “Border Crossings with Larry London". As of late, I'm spending my days writing songs for the new record! The Cocoa-Beach based Ovni Sound System combine elements of catchy, pop-punk hooks, upbeat trombone-driven ska, infectious reggae rhythms, and hard-driving rock. O.S.S. are carving out a strong name for themselves within Florida's highly competitive indie rock scene. Comprised of Carlos (vocals and guitar), bassist Diego, drummer Bruno and Sam on trombone and keyboards, this professional, goal-oriented quartet already enjoy a devoted, often rabid local following. After being met with rave reviews for their self-titled debut E.P, O.S.S are in the process of recording a full-length album and are planning a national tour. Notorious for their high-energy shows, which are geared as much for spectacle as for crowd interaction, Ovni have performed with such notable acts as The Supervillains ,Ballyhoo!, Passafire, Whole Wheat Bread,Outlaw Nation,Echo Valve,Chase Long Beach, The Chaos Agent, A.M Conspiracy, Junkie Rush, 20WT, Skif Dank, and many others. With some Sublime-influenced ska and a touch of Green Day punk rock, the members of Ovni Sound System prove that hard work and determination can spread music that originates in love, movement and fun without having to bow to corporate, chart-obsessed concerns. Check them out and enjoy a fourth wave of ska that promotes just that kind of revolutionary sentiment. | |
